When In Doubt, Dance It Out

It’s amazing how quickly just bopping around to a song in your room can get you out of breath. That’s because, with your focus being on the fun and not the effort, dancing is one form of cardio that can get your heart pumping without you even noticing.

As much as it’s a great way to improve your core, flexibility, coordination and over strength, it’s equally as effective in enhancing your mood and reducing your stress and anxiety by triggering the release of our favourite joy-inducing neurochemicals. Dancing’s ability to condition your mind however, is about more than just endorphins. In a structured cardio dance routine, you are also utilising a great deal of concentration on learning and nailing the moves and their execution; which can also improve your memory and overall cognition.

Not naturally inclined to get your groove on? Don’t stress! A great place to start is with a short set of movements that are easy to replicate and follow along to. If you’re looking for a workout that doesn’t feel like one, why not try a dance cardio routine from our very own Sudor trainer and Pause app founder Danielle Peazer. With your favourite trending songs and a number of different dances to choose from, no matter your dancing capability (or confidence in it), in just 5 to 15 minutes Danielle will have you feeling not only in high spirits but hopefully inspired to move your body, just because you can!

So, get off the couch and off your phone, because even if you’re not a dancer, trying out a dance routine could pay off in a multitude of ways for both your physical and mental health. Just remember to extend yourself some grace if it doesn’t come easily to you at first.
