ChatGPT Takes On Fitness

We’ve all been there before: You’re standing in the gym, ready to get started with the same old workout routine you’ve done 100 times before. You know exactly what to expect, and yet you just aren’t feeling motivated. Even being new to the workout scene can feel overwhelming. It’s hard to know what to do or even if you’re doing it correctly. Enter ChatGPT - the new AI chatbot that seems to have the answer to everything. But can an artificial intelligence source also help you create an effective workout plan? We’re here to find out!

While it is possible for the chatbot to give fitness advice, it’s most definitely a risk. As a beta product intended for research purposes, there’s still so much we don’t know about ChatGPT and its capabilities. Unlike the Internet, with ChatGPT the issue arises with not knowing the source of its information, making it almost impossible to find out whether or not what you’re getting is accurate. Not being specific enough in your prompt to the chatbot could similarly result in the creation of a workout plan that isn’t actually aligned with your personal fitness level or goals. Especially for exercisers who are prone to or currently dealing with injuries, unlike if you were seeking help from a fitness professional, if you don’t know exactly what to ask ChatGPT, you could end up with a program that would exacerbate your condition instead of working around it.

Another area in which ChatGPT seems to be lacking, is the insufficient information it provides with regards to correct technique and form. Blindly following a workout plan devised by the chatbot could be extremely problematic; as not only could your safety and well-being be at risk should you exercise improperly, but so could your fitness goals and desired results be obstructed.

It’s not all bad news though… especially for professionals in the industry. Maybe you’re wanting some inspiration for new ab exercises to add into your clients’ routines, or a new treadmill circuit to trial. If you’re looking for an instantaneous workout in an easy-to-follow format, ChatGPT is a great place to start. And it will only get more accurate over time! Just make sure to be as specific as possible in your prompts so as to get the most effective advice as possible.

While AI may offer a great antidote to gym boredom and avoids pricey gym memberships, it will never be able to replace the benefits that a qualified trainer or instructor provides - so make sure to hang on to yours! In the age of digital fitness it has never been easier to find a fitness professional who aligns with you and your goals. At Sudor we support trainers from all over the world, helping them to connect with their followers and share their knowledge in a simple yet scalable way through the power of tech.
